The 1719 Hildebrandt organ in Pasłęk is a statement of the change in post-communist Poland: a valuable monument treated with utmost respect, restored with precision to its historical origin thanks to extensive research and international collaboration, and maintained with a lot of care. “Antique Sound Palette” is a collection of carefully selected compositions showcasing the remarkable beauty and variety of sound combinations of this instrument.

Ilona Kubiaczyk-Adler collaborated with amazing artists and friends: Aleksandra Muza Korszuń created the design, Jakub Garbacz recorded and mastered the sound, Szymon Januszkiewicz tuned and maintained the organ, Dovile Savickaite was the awesome registrant, Piotr Gajzler, Piotr Pio Rogacki i Marcin Metalurg Staniszewski pumped the bellows, Jacob Adler edited the booklet and interviews, and composed one of the pieces. On the CD you can hear compositions (track list below) as well as collages of interviews with Kimberly Marshall, Guy Whatley, Jakub, Szymon, and Krzysztof Urbaniak, who was one of the main forces behind the restoration of the 1719 Hildebrandt organ.

Organy Hildebrandta z 1719 roku w Pasłęku są symbolem zmian w post-komunistycznej Polsce: bezcenny zabytek potraktowany z należytym mu szacunkiem, precyzyjnie odrestaurowany do stanu oryginalnego dzięki szeroko zakrojonym badaniom naukowym i współpracy międzynarodowej,
i utrzymywany z ogromną pieczołowitością. „Antique Sound Palette” jest zbiorem starannie dobranych utworów prezentujących unikatowe piękno i różnorodność brzmień tego instrumentu.

Ilona Kubiaczyk-Adler współpracowała z wyjątkowymi artystami i przyjaciółmi. Aleksandra Muza Korszuń zrobiła zdjęcia i filmy, oraz projekt graficzny albumu. Jakub Garbacz nagrał, zmontował i zrobił mastering płyty. Szymon Januszkiewicz przygotował, nadzorował i stroił organy. Niezastąpiona Dovile Savickaite pomagała w registrowaniu. Piotr Gajzler, Piotr Pio Rogacki i Marcin Metalurg Staniszewski pompowali powietrze do miechów podczas całej sesji nagraniowej. Jacob Adler zredagował wersję angielską książeczki, zmontował wywiady, oraz skomponował jeden z utworów.

Oprócz kompozycji organowych (lista ścieżek poniżej) na płycie można usłyszeć kolaże wywiadów z Kimberly Marshall, Guy’em Whatley, Jakubem, Szymonem, i Krzysztofem Urbaniakiem, który był jedną z sił sprawczych w restauracji organów Hildebrandta.

Ilona Kubiaczyk-Adler jest koncertującą organistką. W programach recitali poszukuje związków muzyki dawnej ze współcześnie komponowaną, prezentuje działalność twórczą kobiet i muzykę kompozytorów Europy Wschodniej. Swe odkrycia łączy z klasyką repertuaru organowego i improwizacją. Jako artystka zwiedziła większość krajów Europy, oraz południową i północną Amerykę.

Ukończyła Akademię Muzyczną w Łodzi (Magister Sztuki), Konserwatorium w Amsterdamie (Magister Sztuk Muzycznych), oraz Szkołę Muzyczną na Uniwersytecie Stanowym w Arizonie, USA (Doktor Sztuk Muzycznych). Uczyła się gry na organach u Kimberly Marshall, Jacques’a van Oortmerssen’a, Ireny Wisełki-Cieślar i Grażyny Fajkowskiej. W trakcie studiów uczestniczyła w kursach i lekcjach prywatnych prowadzonych przez wybitnych artystów europejskich, między innymi takich jak: Olivier Latry, Guy Bovet, Ludger Lohmann, John Scott, Susan Landale, Pieter van Dijk, Lorenzo Ghielmi, Peter Planyavsky, Wolfgang Seifen. Otrzymała stypendium Royal College of Organists, by doskonalić swoje umiejętności w Cambridge, UK. Brała udział w międzynarodowych konkursach muzyki organowej: zdobyła pierwszą nagrodę w konkursie interpretacji muzyki francuskiej w Warszawie, została finalistką konkursu w Lejdzie w Holandii, półfinalistką konkursu w Irlandii i konkursu Westfield w stanie Nowy Jork. Wykładała na Akademii Muzycznej w Łodzi i na Uniwersytecie Stanowym w Arizonie.

W 2015 roku nagrała album na zrekonstruowanych organach Hildebrandta z 1719 roku w Pasłęku, w Polsce. “Antique Sound Palette” jest zbiorem starannie dobranych utworów prezentujących unikatowe piękno i różnorodność brzmień tego instrumentu. Kulminacją współpracy z grupą utalentowanych artystów, reżyserów dźwięku i muzyków było wydanie płyty w 2016 roku. Do najciekawszych profesjonalnych angaży zalicza występy w Oude Kerk, Nieuwe Kerk, Orgelpark i Muzeum van Gogha w Amsterdamie, w Sint Laurenskerk w Alkmaar, w Issue Project Room w Nowym Jorku, w festiwalu „Right Brain Rising!” w Arizonie, festiwalu „Musica Moderna” w Łodzi, z Orkiestrą Amerykańskich Sił Powietrznych w Waszyngtonie, w Międzynarodowej Akademii Organowej w Göteborgu w Szwecji, oraz na Uniwersytecie Cornell w stanie Nowy Jork. Od lat regularnie podróżuje do miejsc, w których znajdują się wyjątkowe zabytkowe instrumenty, szczególnie do Francji, Niemiec, Holandii, Austrii, Wielkiej Brytanii, Hiszpanii i Włoch. Pasjonuje ją amerykański ruch budownictwa organów w stylach historycznych.

Obecnie mieszka w Phoenix, USA. W 2019 roku objęła stanowisko Vice-Dyrektor d/s Muzyki i Sztuki oraz Organistki Tytularnej w Pinnacle Presbyterian Church w Scottsdale, gdzie gra na mistrzowskim instrumencie Richards, Fowkes op. 14. Wcześniej pracowała jako Vice-Dyrektor d/s Muzyki i Organistka w All Saints’ Episcopal Church w Phoenix, gdzie współzarządzała dużym i aktywnym programem muzycznym złożonym z chórów dorosłych i dziecięcych oraz zespołów instrumentalnych. W latach 2009-2017 pracowała jako Dyrektor Muzyczny w Kościele Episkopalnym Bożego Narodzenia i promowała muzykę klasyczną jako Dyrektor Artystyczny serii Arts at Nativity. Ilona jest członkiem Związku Muzyków Anglikańskich (Association of Anglican Musicians), Związku Amerykańskich Dyrygentów Chóralnych (American Choral Directors Association), oraz zajmuje stanowisko Przewodniczącej d/s Edukacji (Education Chair) w lokalnym oddziale Amerykańskiego Związku Organistów (American Guild of Organists). Uczy prywatnie, oraz koncertuje w Europie i Stanach Zjednoczonych jako solistka, kameralistka, w duecie Zeelab z Jacobem Adlerem, oraz w Duo Polonaise ze skrzypaczką Dagmarą Suchoń Hobbs. W wolnych chwilach lubi chodzić po górach, jeździć na rowerze i uprawiać jogę. Jest szczęśliwą matką dwóch synów.

Ilona Kubiaczyk-Adler is a concert organist whose programs explore connections between early and contemporary music, the works of female composers, the music of Eastern Europe, and improvisation.

Born in Pomerania, Poland, Kubiaczyk-Adler grew up during the era of communism and witnessed the country’s transition to capitalism.  Acquiring a passport after the fall of the communist government allowed her to see the West for the first time. The shock of the experience inspired her to explore the world beyond her home country. She has traveled, mainly as a performer, through most of Europe, and South and North America.

Music became Ilona’s passion early in life – her first musical memory was listening to a Chopin concerto played by Krystian Zimerman on Polish TV. Watching the close-ups of the hands and the keyboard inspired her to draw the pattern of piano keys everywhere, including the furniture. To avoid further damage, her mother decided to send her to music school when she was 7. The Polish music school system kept her busy with daily afternoon classes of theory and history, ear training, choir, ensembles and private lessons until college.

She graduated from three conservatoria: Academy of Music in Łódź, Poland (Master of Arts), Conservatorium van Amsterdam, the Netherlands (Master of Music), and the School of Music at Arizona State University in USA (Doctor of Musical Arts). Her main teachers were Kimberly Marshall, the late Jacques van Oortmerssen, Irena Wisełka-Cieślar, and Grażyna Fajkowska. While in college she traveled to participate in masterclasses and private lessons with: Olivier Latry, Guy Bovet, Ludger Lohmann, the late John Scott, Susan Landale, Pieter van Dijk, Lorenzo Ghielmi, Peter Planyavsky, Wolfgang Seifen, to name a few. She received a scholarship from the Royal College of Organists while studying in Cambridge, UK. Ilona participated in several international organ competitions: she won first prize in the French music interpretation competition in Warsaw, Poland; was a finalist in Leiden, Holland; semifinalist in Ireland, and in Westfield Competition in New York state. She worked as an assistant professor of organ at the Academy of Music in Łódź, and as a Research Assistant and Faculty Associate at ASU.

In 2015 she recorded an album on the newly restored 1719 Hildebrandt organ in Pasłęk, Poland. “Antique Sound Palette” is a collection of carefully selected compositions showcasing the variety of sound combinations and remarkable beauty of this instrument. Her collaboration with a group of amazing artists, sound engineers and musicians culminated with this CD release in 2016. Ilona’s most exciting professional engagements happened at the Oude Kerk, Nieuwe Kerk, Orgelpark and Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the Sint Laurenskerk in Alkmaar, the Issue Project Room in New York, “Right Brain Rising!” festival in Arizona, “Musica Moderna” festival in Łódź, with the US Air Force Strings at St. John’s Episcopal in Washington DC, at the Göteborg International Organ Academy in Sweden, and Westfield Conference at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. For years she has been traveling and exploring unique historical organs, especially in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Great Britain, Ireland, Poland, Spain and Italy. She is fascinated with the historically informed organ building in the US.

She currently resides in Phoenix, AZ.  Since 2019 she has been serving as the Associate Director of Ministries in Music and Arts / Organist at the Pinnacle Presbyterian Church in Scottsdale, where she plays the masterful Richards, Fowkes op. 14 organ. Prior to this appointment she worked as the Associate Director of Music and Organist at the All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Phoenix, where she co-ran a large and active music program with adult, youth, children choirs, and instrumental ensembles. From 2009 to 2017 she worked as the Music Director of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity in Scottsdale, where she also promoted classical music as the Artistic Director of the Arts at Nativity concert series. She is a member of the Association of Anglican Musicians, American Choral Directors Association, and serves on the Board of the local chapter of the American Guild of Organists. She teaches privately, and performs concerts in the US and Europe as a soloist, chamber musician, in duo Zeelab with Jacob Adler, and in Duo Polonaise with violinist Dagmara Suchon Hobbs. In her free time she hikes, bikes, and enjoys yoga. She is a happy mother of two sons.

I like being versatile and flexible. I enjoy tailoring the music to suit the acoustics, the instrument, and the audience. 

My passion is performing music from my home country, Poland. I am proud of this heritage, and I wish to continue the legacy of Polish organists.

I am fascinated with new interpretations of Early Music.

The energy, lyricism, and technical challenge of 19th century music hooked me quite early on. I enjoy playing 20th century as well as newly written music. Sometimes it feels right to improvise.
